The NYTimes Editorial Board and Matt Drudge

We’ve all seen that Matt Drudge seems to be leaning towards Obama. Probably reason 1 why I worry that Obama can win.
So it was a big ol “good for him” yesterday when Mr. Drudge gave John McCain the press he really needed and printed McCain’s oped that was submitted/rejected by the NYTimes.

After printing Obama’s oped piece in the NYTimes, John McCain had a response. The NYTimes wouldn’t print it without Mr. McCain re-working it to essentially agree with Mr. Obama!!

It would also have to lay out a clear plan for achieving victory — with troops levels, timetables and measures for compelling the Iraqis to cooperate.

Yes, time tables and pressure. No, NYTimes, those are Obama’s plans, not McCains.

They said “The Obama piece worked for me because it offered new information (it appeared before his speech);”. So essentially if only John McCain would CHANGE his position so that it offers NEW information, the kind with time tables and pressure, THEN the NYTimes will print his oped too.

Favorite McCain line (too bad it’s at the end)

I am also dismayed that he never talks about winning the war—only of ending it.

I’m glad Obama has finally gone overseas. He may be our next President. He needs to know what’s going on. And as Ralph Peters notes today, if Obama should become the President, “If elected, he won’t let himself be branded as the man who lost Iraq after it had been won.” VERY good point.
