NATO and Afghan forces take over a Taliban held town. The Taliban run.
In February, the Taliban took advantage of a British withdrawal, based on an agreement with tribal leaders to provide security for Musa Qala rather than NATO or Afghan forces. Ever since, they have used Musa Qala to conduct a massive opium trade and for military operations as part of their effort to retake control of Afghanistan.
Losing Musa Qala, therefore, creates big problems for the Taliban.
Cry me a river.
OPFOR notes that Kosovo independence may be in hand.
Don’t forget, we still have a brigade of troops there. If folks in Afghanistan are complaining that they are being ignored because of Iraq, what do the guys in KFOR think? If Kosovo declares independence unilaterally, there may be violence, rioting, and partition of the area north of the Ibar river.
