Chinese Food Stuffs

Whoops, I mean American food stuffs. Yep, that’s right. Right here in Colorado we add melamine to livestock feed.

No problem though because the FDA is out to give us quotes that will not lead to widespread panic in the streets. After noting that the melamine is used as a binding agent vs used to increase protein readings in food, the FDA said:

But as with the pet food scandal, they said, the levels of melamine involved appear to be too low to harm humans who may have eaten animals that consumed the tainted feed.

“As with the pet food scandal”…..were they testing this by eating people’s pets who had eaten the tainted food?? ROFL
I’m sorry – that strikes me as hilarious. Pets died in the pet food scandal, and yet “as with the pet food scandal” the levels of melamine are too low to harm humans here…… And how do they know that?

I suspect the government watches too many horror flicks with people running out into the street screaming bloody murder. Which is how you get idiotic quotes like above along with things like on September 13th everyone is assured that there was no problem breathing in the remains of everything that turned to dust on Sept 11. And we knew that how?

Here’s the big question of the day: Are we sending our melamine laced feed to China?

it is not known whether China — which has suffered significant political damage in recent months for having been caught exporting melamine-tainted pet food ingredients to the United States — was among the countries that may have received the melamine-tainted U.S. products.

Immigration

Well he did it. President Bush who didn’t bother me with his Harriet Miers thing, or even very much the Dubai ports deal finally ticked me off.

The NYTimes has the story of his speech yesterday where he makes the famous comment

“If you want to kill the bill,” he said, “if you don’t want to do what’s right for America, you can pick one little aspect out of it. You can use it to frighten people.”

Yeah – frighten people. That’s it. I’m not frightened Mr. President I’m fair. You give me one good reason why Jose and Rosa who walked across the border illegally in year 1999 and are now working with false SS numbers should get to stay here with a legalized card while Miguel and Maria who have been trying to get their LEGAL papers for years and have no hope of getting them can not!!

That’s right, you can’t.

Mr. President you are the one who has insisted on “comprehensive” immigration reform. Not “the people”. Don’t insult me and my thoughts of what’s “right for America” based on what you think is right. We disagree and I’ll be loud about it.

Bad day in Iraq yesterday

The Washington Post today has a “news article” about what’s going on in Iraq today. This was my favorite paragraph.

U.S. officials have warned that the strategy of putting more American troops on the streets and in small combat outposts, part of a security plan launched in February, would lead to higher U.S. casualties. But Tuesday’s carnage suggested that the effort had not created a safer security environment.

What the hell does that mean in a news story? Tuesday’s carnage….yes it was a bad day. Had not created a safer security environment. Right. “Not yet” would be a less opinionated sort of sound bite for a newsman to give in his news story.
One, we’re told also in this story:

President Bush cited the higher-risk approach during a news conference last week, saying, “We’re going to expect heavy fighting in the weeks and months [ahead]. We can expect more American and Iraqi casualties.”

“It could be a bloody — it could be a very difficult August,” he added.

Global Warming

Here’s an interesting conundrum for you.

Let’s all agree that the climate is changing.
Let’s all agree that it appears to be warming.
Let’s all agree that sometimes even within a warming period, you get cooler years.

Beyond that there can be disagreements about whether it’s sun spots or vehicles that are causing the problem. There can also be disagreements about whether I should give up my suburu or you should give up your private jet. Or on a bigger scale whether Camaroon should give up ever joining the first world or should the US give up plastics.

So let’s say now that this is where we’re at. Now what to do, what to do? Do we all agree that something even needs to be done? So if not, who gives these folks the right of the earth to start dumping CO2 underground? What exactly are the repercussions of injecting the earth with stuff?? This sounds like a fun disaster film in the making.

An Army of Davids

To quote Instapundit today we have a great example of what such an army looks like via Michelle Malkin. She has followed the path of passengers on flight 327.

Freelance writer Annie Jacobsen was on the flight in June 2004 and bravely blew the whistle on security lapses and bureaucratic incompetence.

A change in Rhetoric

Nancy Pelosi returned from Greenland and announced that she saw climate change happening! Not Global Warming, but Climate Change. ROFL.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) said Monday she led a congressional delegation to Greenland, where lawmakers saw “firsthand evidence that climate change is a reality,” and she hoped the Bush administration would consider a new path on the issue.

Um……climate change is reality. Do these people not take history courses??
In other news from the same article, history gets rewritten as it becomes George W. Bush’s fault that the US has not signed onto Kyoto vs the entire Senate back in 1997 when they voted to let President Clinton know that Kyoto didn’t have a chance in hell of getting passed. (this vote included all the Democrats and all the Repulicans present. 97)

U.S. carbon dioxide emissions dropped slightly last year even as the economy grew, according to an initial estimate released yesterday by the Energy Information Administration.

The 1.3 percent drop in CO{-2} emissions marks the first time that U.S. pollution linked to global warming has declined in absolute terms since 2001 and the first time it has gone down since 1990 while the economy was thriving. Carbon dioxide emissions declined in both 2001 and 1991, in large part because of economic slowdowns during those years.

Negotiations (?)

Right.
Omar hit the nail on the head today as to how negotiations between the US and Iran over Iraq will work out. Not.

We send bigger ships to the gulf. The MSM notes that we’ve sent covert ops in to Iran. We accuse them of supplying arms to Iraqi insurgents. They offer to train Iraqis. Sheesh, you couldn’t negotiate yourself further in the lunch line with conditions like this.

Venezuela

Well now old Mr. Hugo Chavez has decided that yet another tv station and a radio station are no longer good for the people.

Venezuela’s government has accused a TV station of inciting a murder attempt on President Hugo Chavez, hours after taking another network off the air.

It said footage shown on Globovision implicitly called for Mr Chavez to be killed. The station denies the claim.

Police fired tear gas and plastic bullets as thousands protested across the country against the earlier closure of Venezuela’s oldest TV network.

Mr Chavez said Radio Caracas TV (RCTV) had tried to undermine his government.

Can you imagine what his reaction would be if it was Mr. Bush shutting down free speech for trying to “undermine his government”?

The Chinese have sentanced Zheng Xiaoyu, who served as director of China’s Food & Drug Administration from its founding in 1998 until mid 2005 to death.

The unusually harsh sentence for the former director comes at a time of heightened concerns about the quality and safety of China’s food and drug system after a series of scandals involving tainted food and phony drugs

I know that translations can be a problem, so let me help out here. “Sacrifical Lamb” is what we would call Mr. Ziaoyu. Of course the reference is biblical so it may not translate the same!

“Burying the Problem”
